To resize or expand a vVol Storage container or datastore

Issue/Introduction

To upgrade and resize the Virtual Volumes datastore.

Environment

• VMware vCenter Server 6.x
• VMware vCenter Server 7.x
• VMware vCenter Server 8.x

Cause

• vvol Storage Containers are a logical entity only and are entirely managed by the storage array. 

Resolution

• Please engage and work with Storage vendor to expand or resize the vVol datastore.
• Storage administrators can change the available storage capacity for vVol using the management GUI or CLI commands.
• After the storage administrator has completed the required changes, refresh the datastore capacity information in vCenter to pick up changes to the existing storage capacity.
• vVol Datastores can be expanded or shrunk on the fly.
