Some of the common questions on migration scenarios are

Q: Is DCS 6.10.0 upgrade is supported from DCS 6.9.3

DCS version 6.10 fully supports migrations from DCS 6.9.3. After successfully migrating DCS management components, all your settings and configurations will be retained.

Q: Will I still be able to use existing Unified Management Console (Web Console) with DCS 6.10

No, The new DCS 6.10 console is a consolidation of web and java thick consoles to a single modern management console. This console has a bunch of new features and enables administrators to streamline and optimize policy configuration with new advanced policy content search capabilities.

Q: Will I be able to enroll and  manage earlier versions of DCS agents with 6.10 Management Server?
Yes, Symantec Agents of v6.9.3 and lower, can be managed by the Management Server of Data Center Security: Server Advanced 6.10.
Agent communication/traffic will be with the new DCS 6.10 Communication Server service.
You can check in the Java Console for the last communication date/time, or you can execute the following command to ensure that the communication is established successfully:

Linux/Unix: sisipsconfig.sh -t
Windows: sisipsconfig.bat -t

With DCS 6.10, administrators will notice enhancements to policy management like these:

DCS 6.10 provides a new architecture that streamlines policy management for a better user experience.

All prevention, detection, and configuration policies are now available in a single pane. With DCS 6.10, advanced new Quick and Custom filters allow users to easily navigate their security policies.

One question users might have: What will happen to their organization’s policy folder hierarchical structure after migrating to DCS 6.10?

After the successful migration, every folder in the folder structure will become a tag. Each policy will then automatically receive the proper tag in the policies hierarchy.

For example, if an organization has this folder and policy, here’s what will happen.

Folder: Windows\Manufacturing – Platform\EAST
Policy: sym_win_hardended_policy

First, 3 Tags will be created: One: ‘Windows.’ Two: ‘Manufacturing - Platform.’ And three: ‘EAST.’ The sym_win_hardended_policy will then be given all 3 tags.

 

Events generated from these policies will also inherit these tags. These tags will also be available for assets and Alert rules.
