Does vertical scale-up of VMware Identity Manager node(s) require internet access?

Issue/Introduction

Documentation such as the Aria Suite Lifecycle Scale-up Aria Suite Products page include this comment:

• For Workspace ONE Access, you must be connected to the internet to perform the vertical scale up operation.

Or in other instances:

• For vIDM, you must be connected to the internet to perform the vertical scale up operation.

Environment

VMware Identity Manager 3.3.x

Cause

• For VMware Identity Manager version 3.3.3 or later releases, you must be connected to the internet to perform the vertical scale up operation. If you are not connected to the internet and want to perform the vertical scale up operation offline, you must install the parted package from packages.vmware.com.

Resolution

If you need to scale-up vIDM without access to the internet, please install the parted partition manager manually:

1. Download the parted package from packages.vmware.com.
2. Transfer this to each vIDM node
3. Install the package on the system with the following command:
   • rpm -i parted-3.2-7.ph3.x86_64.rpm
4. Perform the scale-up of your IDM nodes
