Staging of cluster failed when trying to stage vSphere Lifecycle Manager Images on ESXi hosts of version earlier than 8.0

Issue/Introduction

There are vCenter UI error messages when trying to stage vSphere Lifecycle Manager Images on ESXi hosts of version earlier than 8.0 including Stage skipped for this host, Stage skipped for all hosts and Staging of cluster failed . 




vCenter CLI logs in /var/log/vmware/vmware-updatemgr/vum-server/vmware-vum-server.log show

Cause

Attempting to stage a vSphere Lifecycle Manager image on ESXi hosts of version earlier than 8.0 results in messages that the staging of such hosts fails, and the hosts are skipped. This is expected behavior and does not indicate any failed functionality as all ESXi 8.0 or later hosts are staged with the specified desired image.

Resolution

 After confirming that the affected ESXi hosts are of version earlier than 8.0, ignore the errors.  Staging is unsupported in this scenario but Remedition can be executed as expected.
