Issue/Introduction

While reviewing the hard drive usage on a Symantec Protection Engine (SPE) installed on Linux, you note that the <SPE_INSTALL_FOLDER>/bin/definitions/shareddefinitions/ consumes large amount of hard drive space

Environment

SPE 9.x on Linux

Resolution

Use one of the following two workarounds to resolve this issue:

  1. Restart the SPE service (using the command below) OR;
    /etc/init.d/symcscan restart
  2. Remove the contents of the <SPE_INSTALL_FOLDER>/bin/definitions/shareddefinitions/ folder
    1. Stop the SPE service using the following command:
      /etc/init.d/symcscan stop
    2. Delete the contents of the <SPE_INSTALL_FOLDER>/bin/definitions/shareddefinitions/ folder:
      rm -rf <SPE_INSTALL_FOLDER>/bin/definitions/shareddefinitions/*
    3. Restart the SPE service using the following command:
      /etc/init.d/symcscan start
