Rally - How to create a new portfolio item in Rally

Issue/Introduction

A user is requesting the ability to create Rally portfolio items "Epic" in the list dropdown. Currently, epic is not available as a drop-down option.

Environment

Cause

The Subscription/Workspace/Project Admins has to configure a new portfolio item type "EPIC" in the Workspace/Project admin page.

Resolution

Here are steps that you need to create a new portfolio item in Rally.

1. Select Setup setup from the Rally menu bar in the upper-right corner of the display.
2. Select Workspaces & Projects.
3. Select any hyperlinked workspace name from the Workspace summary page.
4. Select Fields.
5. From the Type drop-down list, select Portfolio Item.
6. The Fields page displays all the fields for Portfolio Items and their attribute types and other parameters.
7. Click +Add New
8. Give a name like "Epic, Theme, Strategy" and assign the ID Prefix Value.
9. A new Portfolio item is created.

NOTE:

• Portfolio Item Types are shown in descending order, i.e., the highest level Type is at the top of the list.
• Be thoughtful when creating Portfolio Item Types; currently they can be renamed, but not reordered.
• Since renaming Portfolio Item Types creates a new work item in Rally, users in the process of viewing Portfolio Items may see an error when you save your name change.
• Changes to all values in this grid are saved immediately
