Issue/Introduction

• When attempting to upgrade the NSX Global Manager (GM), the pre-upgrade check fails with the following error message:
  "Upgrade continue operation failed. Pre-upgrade checks failed for MP. NSX Manager cannot be upgraded. Please upgrade '<Site-Name>' site before performing upgrade of this site."

• In NSX-T GM log /var/log/upgrade-coordinator/upgrade-coordinator.log the following messages can be seen:
  INFO http-nio-127.0.0.1-7442-exec-2 UpgradeQueryServiceImpl 23780 SYSTEM [nsx@6876 comp="nsx-manager" level="INFO" subcomp="upgrade-coordinator"] Returning upgrade status summary for MP details as Pre-upgrade checks failed for MP: NSX Manager cannot be upgraded. Please upgrade '<Site-Name>' site before performing upgrade of this site..
• The Local Managers (LM) for the site in question are in a higher version than the GM.
• The user is trying to upgrade the GM to a version that is lower than the current version of the LMs. For example: 
  • Upgrade the GM from 3.2.1.2 to 3.2.3.1 whereas the LM in Site 1 is already upgraded to 4.2.0

Environment

VMware NSX-T Data Center with Federation

Cause

• This upgrade order is not supported since the GM cannot be upgraded to any version below the LMs version.

Resolution

• Upgrade the GMs to match the already upgraded LM version.
