Issue/Introduction

  • Editing the storage policy or hard disk size of a VM in VMware Cloud Director (VCD) fails with the following error:

Error: [ ####-########-####-########ece4 ] Organization vDC compute policy '####-########-####-########ce57' is not available in vDC '####-########-####-########6513'.

  • This issue can occur after completing an NSX-V to NSX-T migration in VMware Cloud Director.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.x

Cause

This issue occurs because the impacted VM is associated with an old or non-existing Organization VDC compute policy that has not been added to the current Organization VDC.

Resolution

Before you can modify the storage settings for a VM in VMware Cloud Director, first you must assign the VM to an existing VM Sizing Policy for the Organization VDC.

Note: To be able to modify the VM Sizing Policy for a VM, there must be at least two Sizing Policies available to select from in the Organization VDC.

  1. Log into the VMware Cloud Director Provider Admin Portal as a System Administrator user.
  2. Navigate to Resources > Cloud Resources > Organization VDCs.
  3. Click on the name of the Organization VDC where the impacted VM resides and navigate to the Policies > VM Sizing view.
  4. If there is only one policy listed, click Add. If there are already multiple policies present, skip to step 6.
  5. (Optional) In the Select Policies of Add to VDC pop-up window add a second temporary policy and click OK.
  6. Navigate to the impacted VM in the Tenant Portal.
  7. Navigate to the Hardware > Compute view of the VM and click Edit.
  8. In the Edit Compute pop-up window select the correct Sizing Policy for the VM, then click Save.
  9. (Optional) If you added a new temporary VM Sizing Policy, navigate back to the Policies > VM Sizing view for the Organization VDC and remove it.
  10. With the VM Sizing Policy updated, attempt to modify the storage settings of the VM again.

If you are unable to update the VM Sizing Policy via the Tenant Portal, contact Broadcom Support and note this Article ID (385945) in the problem description. For more information, see Creating and managing Broadcom support cases.
