VMware SDDC Manager

Issue/Introduction

  • After upgrading SDDC Manager from 5.1 to 5.1.1/5.2, creating new Workload Domain/Cluster and joining the SSO domain with "License Later" option the vCenter is deployed in Evaluation Mode
  • On login to the vCenter and trying to apply the vCenter license that was received as part of the VCF perpetual purchase. The license can't be applied and an insufficient license capacity error message appears.
  • Without licenses, the vCenters will transition from Evaluation to licensed and will get disconnected from the vCenter.

Environment

VCF 5.1.1

VCF 5.2

Cause

This issue is limited to customers who have only 1 vCenter license for their VCF. The single quantity vCenter license can't be applied to multiple vCenters that are linked in Enhanced Linked Mode. Earlier this was handled via SDDC Manager internally.

Resolution

Currently there is no resolution.

Workaround (if any):
Do not use 'License Later' for future workload creation. If a workload domain has been created using 'License Later', try on of the below options

Option 1
Delete and redeploy the workload domain using the "License Now" option.

Option 2
If some other (Non VCF) vCenter licenses are available, use them to license the VCs. Make sure the vCenter license should have enough capacity to license all VCs. If no other vCenter license available, then use option #1 or #2.
