Issue/Introduction

  • Changing the root Password of your VMware Cloud Director (VCD) Appliance.
  • When using VCD 10.5.1 version or later you do not have to update the appliance certificate private key to use the new password.
  • Starting with VCD 10.5.1 The certificates command of the cell management tool is deprecated.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.5.1 version or later.

Resolution

To change the root password of a VMware Cloud Director appliance, perform the following steps:

  1. Log in directly or by using an SSH client to the VMware Cloud Director appliance console as root.
  2. Run the passwd command and change the password for the root user.
    passwd root
