DX Unified Infrastructure Management (Nimsoft / UIM)

Issue/Introduction

As per our storage team, we are handling storages with capacity approx 15000 TB and the same are getting monitored in DX UIM application.

When we tried to gather total storage capacity from DXIM database, the capacity value is almost same.

As per DXIM license, every 5TB storage consumes 1 license and as per this total 3000 licenses should be consumed but usage_metric probe license report states 25000+ licenses are consumed.

Environment

UIM 23.4 CU2

usage_metric 9.4.1

Resolution

DXUIM takes into account the highest total number of units monitored on any single day within a month for billing purposes. For this customer, the total unit count (referred to as 135008.2) may be the largest for a specific day in that month, which is why UIM considers it for billing.

For more information on billing, please refer to the rules and documentation provided here.

  • If the billable units change within a month, the report uses the largest value. For example, if you are monitoring 2 TB using a storage pack probe for 15 days, and 3 TB for the remaining days of the month, the probe calculates the billable units as 3 TB for the whole month.
  • If you remove a billable component from a monitored resource, the report still includes the value for the month. For example, if you remove a disk or volume from your storage server, the probe includes the capacity as billable unit for the whole month.
  • If you rename a hub, the report includes the billable units for both the old and new hub names for the month. For example, if you rename a secondary hub from hub20 to hub21, the report includes the billable units information for both the hubs.
  • If you have no billable items in a month, the probe does not generate reports for that month. You can verify the information from the probe logs
