ESXi can not find local NVME RAID disk created by Intel VROC

Issue/Introduction

  • The Intel VROC (Virtual RAID on CPU) has been enabled in BIOS of host. 
  • VROC created NVME RAID disk volumes.
  • ESXi can find the RAID1 disk volume but unable to find the other RAID disk volume (RAID5, RAID10, etc.)

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0.x

Cause

Intel VROC for VMware ESXi provides support for RAID1 volumes created using NVME disks only. Other RAID types like RAID5, RAID10 are currently not supported on VMware ESXi.

Resolution

RAID types other than RAID1 are not supported by VROC. 

To workaround the issue, change the RAID type to RAID1:
