ESXi hostd service shows as running, however the hostd service is in stuck state.

Issue/Introduction

ESXi Host UI is not accessible from UI however  CLI and console . The hostd service status shows as running.

 

 

Environment

ESXi host 7.0.x 

ESXi host 8.0.x 

Cause

The service was restarted while the esxi had an underlying issue, like showing as not responding on the vCenter server. 

In logs we see the host-probe.log as  hostd service being unavailable.

Hostd service is not updating since the time the host went to hung state. 

Due to service being in hung state the ESXi utility would not work.

 

 

Resolution

We reboot the host to resolve this issue, as the service restart made the service to o in hung state.
