Issue/Introduction

Message delivery to a particular domain or email address are failing and Message Audit Logs show a delivery failure with the SMTP response

554 5.2.0 < #5.2.0 smtp; 552 5.2.0 Internal Error AUP#1004>

Cause

Messaging Gateway is attempting to deliver messages to a destination server which will not accept them due to either its internal configuration or an internal server error.

Resolution

Messaging Gateway cannot deliver mail to a server that refuses to accept it. This issue can only be addressed by the destination mail server administrators correcting the internal server error which is causing message delivery from SMG to be rejected.
