Issue/Introduction

Despite having DHCP enabled on the Edge interface, the client is unable to obtain the correct IP address.

Environment

VeloCloud Edge

A client is trying to obtain an IP address via DHCP from the Edge.

Resolution

When using the DHCP function ...

Please follow the steps below to troubleshoot the issue:

  1. Verify that DHCP is correctly configured on the Edge interface. Make sure the configuration follows the instructions in the Admin Guide.

  2. Ensure that there are no other DHCP servers in the same network where the client is located. If multiple DHCP servers exist on the same network, unexpected IP addresses may be assigned. When using the Edge as the DHCP server, please confirm that there are no other DHCP servers in the same network.

  3. Perform a packet capture on the Edge interface. Use the Edge's diagnostic tools to capture packets and verify that DHCP packets from the client are reaching the Edge and that an IP address is being returned from the Edge.

When using the DHCP Relay function ...

In addition to the above checks, please also verify the following:

  1. The reply to the DHCP relay will be sent as unicast traffic to the Edge's LAN-side interface. Please ensure that there are no unnecessary LAN-side NAT configurations or other settings blocking traffic to the Edge's LAN-side interface.

If the issue persists after performing the above steps, please contact support for further assistance.
