Cannot rename an Organization in Cloud Director when it is Enabled

Issue/Introduction

• In the UI, you will see:
  • The field 'Organization name' will be read-only, and the informational message will display "An organization must be disabled before it can be renamed".
• In the API, if you attempt to update whilst the Organization is Enabled, you will see:
  • "ACCESS_TO_RESOURCE_IS_FORBIDDEN"
  • "com.vmware.vcloud.api.presentation.entity.security.OperationDeniedException: Either you need some or all of the following rights [ORG_NAME_EDIT] to perform operations [ORGANIZATION_EDIT_NAME] for <ORG_ID> or the target entity is invalid."
    • This is not a Rights issue, once Disabled, the above message will not appear.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director

Cause

Cloud Director requires an Organization to be Disabled before it can be renamed.

Resolution

This is a requirement of the product and is not expected to change.

You will need to Disable the Organization to perform any changes to the 'Organization name' field.

 

Note: The 'Organization full name', a secondary naming field can be changed whilst the Organization is Enabled.
