Issue/Introduction

This article addresses a specific issue encountered in PAM Version 4.2, where NFS mounts remain unmounted when configuring session recording external storage. The problem arises due to the NFS server being configured to accept only version 3 mounts.

When configuring the external storage for session recording in the PAM UI, the mount status remains "Unmounted" and an error message appears as follows:

Error: PAM-CM-0056: NFS mount operation unsuccessful. Mount point: <mount point set in Share Path> Hostname: <Hostname>

This error occurs upon attempting to mount the NFS share using the following configuration:

  •     Protocol: NFS
  •     Share Path: [Verified correct NFS path]
  •     HostName: [Hostname or IP address of NFS server]
  •     Request Timeout: 600 (default, in tenths of a second)
  •     Encrypt in Transit: Not selected
  •     The error suggests a compatibility issue with NFS version 4.

Environment

PAM Version: 4.2
NFS Server: Configured to accept only NFS version 3 mounts

Resolution

To resolve the issue, a manual configuration update is necessary to force the NFS mount to use version 3.
