nis_server group maintenance taking a long time

Issue/Introduction

The nis_server probe appears to be doing some kind of group maintenance every so often and it is taking a long time. I see log messages indicating it is taking several minutes:

Oct 24 13:39:25:599 INFO  [pool-2-thread-2, com.ca.grouping.maintenance.GroupMaintenanceHandler] Finished group maintenance (8.703 min).

Can this be improved?

Cause

working as designed

Resolution

The nis_server enumerates all groups and the members thereof and with a large number of groups it can take time.

In a system with over 5000 groups the maintenance takes 8-10 minutes.

There is no way to speed up the process.  However, this is a background process and there should be no observable impact.
