Issue/Introduction

  • In Aria Automation when deploying virtual machines (VMs) ,the VMs are deployed on random datastores while using Virtual Private Zones.
  • During deployment VMs are placed on the datastore with more free space, ignoring the constraints defined by capability tags.

Environment

Aria Automation 8.x

Cause

  • When selecting a Storage Policy while creating a Virtual Private Zone (VPZ), multiple datastores may be associated with the same storage policy.
  • Even if individual datastores are tagged with unique tags, during VM deployment, the system adheres to the capability tags configured for the Storage Policy.
  • VMs will be deployed to the datastore that has the maximum free space among the datastores tagged to the selected Storage Policy, irrespective of the individual tags on the datastores.

Resolution

  • When working with Virtual Private Zone, explicitly specifying the desired datastore is essential for precise placement, as constraint tags will not manage placement.
  • Cloud Zones support the correct processing and application of storage profile constraint tags, ensuring that virtual machines are placed according to defined storage policies and capability tags.
  • If you wish using Virtual Private Zone, you can manually select the datastore while creating Virtual Private Zone.
