Disable Compression on a vSAN ESA cluster

Issue/Introduction

• Compression is enabled by default on vSAN ESA clusters. There can be scenarios where customers do not want to use this feature.

Environment

• VMware vSphere vSAN ESA

Cause

• Compression is enabled by default on vSAN ESA because of space-saving and performance improvement benefits. However, in certain situations, this feature may not be desired.

Resolution

• Deduplication and compression settings are controlled in the space efficiency section under Storage Rules in vSAN storage policies. To disable the use of compression, choose the "No space efficiency" option.
