Unable to edit VM storage in VMware Cloud Director due to a failed storage vMotion

Issue/Introduction

When editing a virtual machine with multiple disks in VMware Cloud Director the operation will fail due to a storage vmotion that can not complete.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6

Cause

The underlying disks that are trying to be added to the virtual machine adhere to separate storage policies. When a disk is added or changed VMware Cloud Director re-evaluates placement of the virtual machine triggering the storage vmotion. If the storage policy is for different datastore clusters we will experience a failure.

Resolution

Temporarily edit the default policy for all disks attached to the virtual machine. Proceed to migrate all disks to the cluster, and then create and present the intended storage policies for the disks.
