Issue/Introduction

Following GP segment failure, attempt to run gprecoverseg fails with error: 

gprecoverseg:eric_gp-mdw:gpadmin-[CRITICAL]:-gprecoverseg failed. (Reason=''ascii' codec can't encode character u'\...' in position ...: ordinal not in range(...)') 

Cause

This failure occurs due failed attempt to encode read character.

In the context of gprecoverseg, this error is likely to be occurring as. result of an underlying Hardware / Disk drive issues.

Resolution

It is recommended to further check the logs for Hardware failures.
