Issue/Introduction

The following steps combine Flex report and Asset reporting data to enable visibility of EKS Clusters with Extended Support charges, and which version the cluster is running.

Note: This is just an example that can be extended based on your requirements.

Resolution

  1. Export a Flex Report that contains extended usage filtered by clusters with current usage, Resource ID, and cost. E.g. -

  1. Export an Asset report that has the Cluster ARN and version columns enabled -

  1. Using Excel, filter the Asset report extract to only those columns that contain a version that is under extended support as per -

https://docs.aws.amazon.com/eks/latest/userguide/kubernetes-versions.html#kubernetes-release-calendar

(e.g. 1.28 and older for Nov 2024).

  1. Copy the relevant filtered results and add them to your Flex Report extract.

  2. Perform a VLOOKUP within your Flex Report Extract to match cluster versions based on Cluster ARN.

Note: Version numbers may not be present for some clusters, as some accounts may not been configured with EKS API access. Be sure to update accounts with this access by following our configuration guides.
