Issue/Introduction

In a stretched environment, when attempting a vCenter upgrade, you may encounter a failure due to “VC upgrade failed while attempting to move target vCenter to primary AZ in stretched environment” error during “Post Upgrade Configuration” stage. This issue typically occurs when the cluster name is renamed in stretch environment.

VMware Cloud Foundation 5.x

Cause

This error occurs when the cluster is renamed in a stretched environment.

Resolution

  1. Login to the vCenter UI.

  2. Rename changed clustername to old clusterName.

  3. Rerun the vCenter upgrade from SDDC-Manager.

  4. Once upgrade is successful, the cluster can be renamed to a new name.
