Vtape Virtual Tape System

Issue/Introduction

Using the VCA Backstore Component.

Resolution

The new VCA component allows for the triplex backstore copy (the backstore copy written to a USS/zFS file system) will be copied to the CLOUD. How long the USS/zFS copy is retained locally after it has been sent to the cloud can be customized through a batch utility (so, if you want to rely strictly on the CLOUD after 30-days - or after 90 days).

As for how often; whenever a "new" version of the virtual-volume has been created a new copy will be shipped to the cloud. So, if you "add" an additional file to the same virtual-volume every day for a week - you will ship 7 copies to the cloud (the Monday version would contain 1 file; the Tuesday version would contain files 1 and 2; the Wednesday version would contain files 1, 2 and 3; and so on and so on). There is a clean-up process that will then delete the older versions from the cloud. And in the USS/zFS file system; only the latest would be backstored.
