Issue/Introduction

How does HCX determine which NE Appliance to delete when reducing the Appliance Count?

Environment

VMware HCX

Resolution

HCX will not select any NE Appliances with a stretched network or that are part of an HA Group for deletion.

If the number of NE deletions required reaches a point where NE Appliances with stretched networks or those that are part of an HA Group need to be deleted to satisfy the requirement, an error message will be displayed informing the user could not reduce/remove the network extension appliance count, and there should not be any networks stretched via that appliance and the appliances should not be part of an HA group.

For instance, if there are 8 NE Appliances, with 4 of them used for HA (NE-I3, NE-I4, NE-I5, and NE-I6), the maximum number of NE Appliances that can be removed is 4 (NE-I1, NE-I2, NE-I7, and NE-I8), unless the HA is deactivated from the existing NE Appliances. The best way to validate this is through the Service Mesh (SM) UI, which shows a preview of the SM changes and allows you to confirm the changes by clicking the "FINISH" button before proceeding further.
