"ADO Connection Error 0x80040e73 - iDisparch Error #3187 - Format of the initialization string does not conform to the OLE DB specification" error when creating new sql_response profile

Issue/Introduction

When trying to set up a new profile with the sql_response probe I am receiving an error:

"Profile cmd_check_connection_string, check connection, COM error [0x80040e73] iDispatch error #3187 - [Microsoft OLE DB Service Components] Format of the initialization string does not conform to the OLE DB specification."

What is the cause of this error?

Environment

sql_response probe - 1.82 and prior

Cause

This error can be caused by certain special characters in the password for the SQL Connection.

Resolution

This issue will be resolved in the next release of sql_response after 1.82 - currently targeted for the middle of March 2025 (subject to change).

As a workaround, change the password on the SQL user to one that does not use any of the following special characters:
