Issue/Introduction

While preparing a host for NSX, the host will fail to prepare with the error message: "26164: Transport Node cannot be created or updated because host is not attached to every VDS specified in Transport Node Profile."

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

When preparing an ESXi host as an NSX Transport Node, all hosts must be connected to all distributed virtual switches (VDS) associated with the desired Transport Node Profile.

If the host is not associated with all distributed virtual switches NSX will not be able to prepare the host.

See Add a Transport Node Profile and Prepare ESXi Cluster Hosts as Transport Nodes by Using TNP for further details.

Resolution

Via vCenter GUI, ensure the ESXi host is assigned to all necessary distributed virtual switches (VDS) with the necessary uplinks.

Additional Information

  • If the error persists after ensuring the vDS configuration is correct, try performing a "hard refresh" of the NSX UI browser page to bypass the cache when reloading the page.
    (CTRL+F5 on Windows/Linux, or Cmd+Shift+R on Mac).
  • If this error occurs when adding new transport nodes to the cluster, the first step is to verify that the vDS configuration is correct. If the issue persists, try reapplying the transport node profile.
