Issue/Introduction

The V2V or P2V conversion process may occasionally result in the creation of multiple virtual disks (VMDK files) even when the source server contains only a single disk.

  • Within the Guest OS, there is only one disk present.

  • During Conversion using Converter Tool, multiple virtual disks are showing created.

Environment

vCenter Converter Standalone 6.3
vCenter Converter Standalone 6.4
vCenter Converter Standalone 6.6

Resolution

To merge all disks into one in a single virtual disk during conversion, follow these steps:

  • Select the Disks to Merge:

    • Choose the disks you want to merge (e.g., /tmp, /dump from VirtualDisk2).
  • Move Disks to the Desired Location:

    • For each selected disk, click the "Move Up" option to move them to VirtualDisk1.
  • Arrange the Disks:

    • Ensure the disks are in the correct order as per your preference.
  • Finalize the Process:

    • Once the disks are arranged in the desired order, proceed to merge them into a single disk.
