Issue/Introduction

When viewing certificates in the vCenter certificate administration page, you may see the message, "Certificate does not have issuer name" similar to the message below in the "Issued To" column.

Environment

If you follow these steps below from Managing vCenter Server Certificates

  1. Log in to a vCenter Server as a user with administrator privileges in the local vCenter Single Sign-On domain.
    The default domain is vsphere.local.
  2. Select Administration.
  3. Under Certificates, click Certificate Management.

The Certificate tabs for the different types of certificates appear. You see a certificate that shows "Certificate does not have issuer name"

Cause

The subject of the certificate or a certificate in the chain lacks the "Organization" field hence the "Issued To" is shown as empty in the UI. This error can be misleading, but this is not an issue as long as the certificate is valid.

Resolution

This message can be disregarded. However, to resolve the issue the certificate missing the "Organization" field will need to be replaced with a certificate that has all the required fields.
