Issue/Introduction

  • When reviewing the data center dashboard for an organization VDC on VMware Cloud Director 10.5.x or later, the CPU shows 0 MHz as in the following example:

  • The org VDC is using an Allocation Pool allocation model.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.5.x
VMware Cloud Director 10.6.x

Cause

Since CPU is not reserved on a per VM basis in the case of the Allocation Pool allocation model, the resource pool shows 0 CPU reserved from the underlying vCenter. This is currently the expected behavior for this allocation model.

Resolution

VMware Cloud Director is behaving as expected. The allocation model can be adjusted to the Flex allocation model using the API, as discussed in the following documents:

Flex Allocation Model in VMware Cloud Director

How to Change the Allocation Model of an Organization Virtual Data Center(OVDC) in VMware Cloud Director (VCD)

Additional Information

The allocation model can also be changed to the Flex allocation model by assigning an incompatible compute policy to the VDC, as discussed in the following:

Modify the Allocation Model Settings of an Organization Virtual Data Center in VMware Cloud Director

A prompt similar to the following will be displayed upon assignment and the change to the Flex allocation model will not be reversible:
