Issue/Introduction

SDDC Manager 9.0 includes a pre-check to validate the VCF Operations version before upgrading BOM components (NSX, VC, ESXi) through SDDC Manager.

The pre-check will fail and display a warning if the VCF Operations version is below 9.0.0.0.

Environment

SDDC Manager 9.0

Cause

VCF Operations 9.0 existence is mandatory before upgrading Management and Wokfload Domains

Resolution

Why VCF OPs 9.0 is required for VCF 9.0 ?

  • VCF Operations 9.0 is the primary operations console for administrators to perform their day-to-day operations
  • VCF Operations 9.0 handles license management across the stack for VCF 9.0
  • As per upgrade guidelines management components are the ones to be upgraded first followed by the core components

If you don't have the VCF Operations 9.0 component deployed, please refer to the upgrade documentation. It includes scenarios that will help you assess your current topology and deploy any missing components as needed.

VMware Aria Operations Plugin Update Issue After VCF Ops Upgrade

Problem: You've upgraded your VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Operations to version 9.0, but you're still seeing the pre-check warning in SDDC Manager. This indicates the VMware Aria Operations plugin might not be updated to the latest version.

Solution:

Check the plugin status:

  • Log in to the Management VC.
  • Go to Administration tab -> Solutions -> Client Plugins.
  • Find the VMware Aria Operations plugin.
  • If the plugin is in a failed state or its version is not updated to the VCF Ops version (9.0), follow these steps:
    • Update the plugin: Log in to the VMware Aria Operations user interface.
    • Navigate to Administration > Integrations > Accounts.
    • Locate the account associated with your VMware Cloud Foundation.
    • Edit the account.
    • Click on MANAGE INTEGRATION.
    • Enable the toggle switch/button.
    • Save the changes.

Note: After following these steps, the plugin should update, and the pre-check warning in SDDC Manager should disappear.
