Issue/Introduction

  • Deleting a VM in VMware Cloud Director (VCD) fails with the error below:

Error: [########-####-####-########92b1 ] validation error on field 'updateVm.arg0.name': String value has invalid format, value: [ VM Name]

  • You cannot edit the VM name since the edit option is grayed out 

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.x

Cause

This issue is encountered if VM name has leading or trailing whitespaces, which is not allowed.

Resolution

Database modification is needed to delete the leading or trailing whitespaces.
