Issue/Introduction

In a previous case, we were told that the normal value for the Node Ready Status metric should be "0" to indicate that all nodes are ready. However we have an EKS cluster showing a value of "1" when all of the nodes are ready status.

Please confirm what the normal value should be, and if "0" is the ready value, why the metric would be showing "1" when all nodes are in ready status.

Resolution

"Node Ready Status" should be 0 if all nodes are ready, and it's documented:

Cluster Monitoring Metrics

  • Node Ready Status
Overall node ready status in the cluster. When one or more cluster nodes are in the Not Ready state, the value is 1. When all the nodes are in the Ready state, the value is 0.

Additional Information

Further troubleshooting can be done by doing this:

  1. Check "Kubernetes:Total Nodes" metric value
  2. Click "Kubernetes:Nodes" node and search for "Ready" to see if you are getting same # of results as above, and all with value "1"

"1" values disappeared.
