Issue/Introduction

In the VLSR UI, the Protection Group reports Unconfigured warnings for individual VMs

  • Protection Group has configuration warnings. "Partially Recovered", "Not Configured"
  • VM is unconfigured in Protection Group.
  • Protection Group VM protection unconfigured status is "Placeholder already exists."

Environment

VMware Site Recovery Manager  (SRM) 8.x,
VMware Live Site Recovery (VLSR) 9.x

Cause

If a VM is removed and recreated in VC , without first removing VLSR protection, the new VM will have differing VC vm id.
However, the VLSR protection config continues to reference the EXISTING VM placeholder created for the old VM id
It cannot replace it with a new placeholder while the original placeholder already exists.

Resolution

  • First remove the old VM placeholder from DR Inventory. Select VM>Remove from Inventory.  ( Delete from Disk is also applicable)

  • Using the VLSR UI options you can Remove Placeholder and Remove Protection.

  • Reconfigure Protection.
This will generate a new placeholder.
Protected VM should report OK status.

  • Recovery Resource Pool , Recovery Host  columns may not be populated on protection.
Run TEST failover once to populate these columns.
