Issue/Introduction

After the P2V conversion, when logged in as the root user the ping command gets executed but for a non-root (sudo or standard) user, the ping command fails with the below error:

ping: socket: Operation not permitted.

Environment

  • Linux RHEL 7.9x
  • VMware Converter 6.x

Cause

While copying files from the source system, we copy the content of the files but not the entire meta data. So we are not able to preserve all the meta data on destination.

Resolution

The issue will be fixed in the upcoming release of Converter tool.
