Issue/Introduction

I require support artefact to clear whitelisting of Infrastructure Manager in Application Whitelisting software (like McAfee Solidcore, Microsoft Applocker).

At present, when using Infrastructure manager to open the configuration of any probe with GUI (like controller and cdm), the Application Whitelisting software will block the launch of the GUI.

Can you verify and acknowledge if the following statement is correct.

“When launching the probe GUI from Infrastructure Manager, Infrastructure Manager will extract the GUI .exe file from the local Archive into the current user’s temp folder and execute the GUI .exe file.”

Environment

UIM 23.4 and later

Resolution

Application whitelisting is the approach of restricting the usage of any tools. Whitelisting allows only pre-approved files to execute on operating system.

If the whitelisting  application cannot be disabled, then you MUST ensure that the installer application and ALL Nimsoft programs, directories/files are completely excluded from blocking, scanning, filtering, etc.,

If you have not excluded UIM/OC from security software or whitelisting  applications that can end up blocking/filtering applications/ports/protocols/connections, and it may also happen at a time when you don’t expect it. In that case, you may have to reach out to your Security team, there may be delays in obtaining a response and this may interfere with the progress of your install, upgrade or monitoring.
