Issue/Introduction

38xx edges that were running normally on 4.x versions might start indicating Memory usage warnings or even service restart when upgraded to 5.x versions.

Environment

SD-WAN 38xx Edges running on 5.x versions

Cause

There is an increase in memory utilization on 5.x versions over 4.x versions which is as per the design and expected. For 38xx Edges this causes the memory consumption to go over the defined thresholds for 4.x, resulting in informative Events on the Orchestrator that the "Process edged memory usage exceeds 40% threshold". If the Edge is running at maximum scale, it may experience memory consumption issues to the point of frequently triggering defensive Edge service restarts to recover the memory. Maximum scale is understood eg for an Edge 3800 to have 3.8M Edge to Edge flows, 4K peers, 6K tunnels, and 100K routes.

Resolution

Versions 5.2.4 and 6.1.0.0 include the fix for this issue #141943
