In some alarm definitions, when two or more alarm actions for the reset rule are configured, the Edit Alarm Definition wizard in vSphere Client shows unnecessary additional wizard pages for the reset rule.
Affected alarms are listed below:
- Host connection and power state
- Virtual Machine Fault Tolerance vLockStep interval Status Changed
- Host CPU usage
- Host memory usage
- Virtual machine CPU usage
- Virtual machine memory usage
- Datastore usage on disk
- Datastore cluster is out of space
- Datastore usage on disk based on available capacity
These alarms should have only one reset rule.
ex) In the below screenshot, two alarm actions, i.e. "Send email notifications" and "Send SNMP traps" are configured for the reset rule.
This wizard has the second page for the reset rule "Reset Rule 2", but the second page is unnecessary one and should not be shown.
vCenter Server 7.0, vCenter Server 8.0
This is known issue in vSphere Client GUI.
VMware by Broadcom engineering team is now investigating this issue.
Use the first wizard page "Reset Rule 1" for editing the reset rule.
And ignore the unnecessary wizard pages ("Reset Rule 2" and "Reset Rule 3"). All changes done in the unnecessary wizard pages do not make any changes for the alarm definitions on completing the wizard.
