Issue/Introduction

  • On the NSX UI, clicking on Networking -> Segments shows a Segment configured for bridging with a Failed status

    Realization Error:
There already exists a BridgeEndpoint on same edgeNodes [TN UUIDs] with same vlan-transportzone PolicyTransportZone/<UUID> and vlanid <VLANID>

  • Traffic that traverse the Bridge datapath is not working
  • The Bridge configuration is not realised on the Edge node, admin cli "get bridge summary" shows no Bridge configuration is present.

Environment

VMware NSX 4.x
VMware NSX-T 3.x

Cause

Configuring multiple Bridges on the same Edge Nodes,  using the same VLAN ID and VLAN Transport Zone is not supported.

Resolution

A Bridge configuration involves 3 components i.e. Edge Nodes, VLAN Transport Zone and VLAN ID.
All 3 cannot be identical in 2 or more separate bridge configurations, at least 1 of them must be different.

Validate the Bridging configuration as follows:

  1. On the NSX UI navigate to Networking -> Segments -> Profiles -> Edge Bridge Profiles
  2. Identify if multiple edge Bridge profiles are configured on the same Edges
  3. On Networking -> Segments, select the segments where Bridge Profile is applied
  4. Validate the Transport Zone and VLAN ID of each segment to identify duplicate configuration
