Issue/Introduction

On the VM object view page in Aria Operations 8.18.x, as shown below, no logs are shown for the VM. However, logs related to this VM are shown in Aria Operations for Logs' Explore Logs page.

In older versions, it's under Environment > Object Browser:

Environment

Aria Operations 8.x

Cause

When clicking on the Logs tab for a VM, logs that have been sent to Aria Operations for Logs by the VM are displayed. Verify that the VM is configured to send syslog or has the Aria Operations for Logs agent installed to view the logs.

Note: Logs that are sent by hosts or other objects that reference the VM are not displayed in the VM's Logs tab. Aria Operations searches for the VM name within the hostname static field of the log entries in Aria Operations for Logs when filtering the logs to be displayed.

Resolution

To resolve this issue,

Ensure that the integration between Aria Operations and Aria Operations for Logs is done.
Configuring VMware Aria Operations for Logs with VMware Aria Operations

Install and configure the Log Insight Agent or syslogd on each virtual machine.
