Issue/Introduction

During planned times of maintenance or other host impacting activities, there may be need to suppress all alerts temporarily.

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.x

Resolution

There are two options for suppressing alerts for hosts.  Note that the location of Inventory and Policies Definition can differ between Aria Operations versions.  The instructions here are for Aria Operations 8.18:

Option 1:  Disable all data collection for the host.

  1. Navigate to Configuration, and Inventory Management.
  2. On the right side search box, filter by the name of the host you want to affect.
  3. Select the host and then click on the Start Maintenance button.
  4. Configure the maintenance window start and stop times (or configure as indefinite until manually stopped).

Option 2:  Create a Policy to disable all Alerts but continue collecting data from the host.

  1. Navigate to Configuration. Policy Definitions.
  2. Create a New Policy and select Alerts and Symptoms.
  3. Locate the Object Type for the alerts you wish to suppress (Host System).
  4. Change page size to show all available alerts for this object type.
  5. Select all alerts and select Action, then Deactivate to disable the alerts.
  6. Save the policy and apply it to the host(s) needed.
