CA Identity Manager

Issue/Introduction

Environment details: Non vApp, standalone cluster setup with IDM 14.5, WildFly 23.0.2, CA Directory 14.1 SP4

We have already applied SP5 on Directory 14.1 and SP1 on IDM 14.5 in the lower environment. We are planning to apply the same in production as well. We prefer to do this in two phases to reduce the outage window in Production.

Phase 1: Apply SP5 on Directory 14.1

Phase 2: Apply SP1 on IDM 14.5

Need confirmation if it's ok to perform this in two phases as mentioned above. As there will be around 20 days of time gap between these two phases, wanted to know if there is any possibility of version compatibility issues that we should anticipate during this time gap.

Resolution

Your plan to upgrade in two phases is okay:

Phase 1: Apply SP5 on Directory 14.1

Phase 2: Apply SP1 on IDM 14.5

Though Directory 14.1 SP5 was QA-tested only with IDM 14.5 SP1, we do not anticipate any problems running CA DIrectory 14.1 SP5 with IDM 14.5.0 for several days. To minimize the possibility of problems, please do try to get IDM upgraded within your planned 20-day gap.

Additional Information

In general, for all upgrades of Identity Manager, it is acceptable to upgrade to the newer required version of CA Directory without having to immediately upgrade Identity Manager. To minimize potential problems it is advised to upgrade Identity Manager as soon as possible.
