OrgVDC are still showing in Cloud Director UI when logging with Control Access Only Role

Issue/Introduction

  • User Permissions/Role in VDC Organization Not Restricting Access as Expected
  • you have granted a user the Control Access Only Role to show only allowed OrgVDC
  • all the OrgVDCs from the Organization are present
  • the vApp/VM are not displayed in the UI 

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.5.1.1

Cause

This issue occurs if not properly shared the OrgVDC and the vApp with the user having Console Access Only Role.

Resolution

To resolve the issue to execute the following steps:

1) If no VM or vApp are visible in the UI: 

    a) From the Tenant Portal logged in as Organization Administrator select the OrgVDC you want to assign to the User with Console Access Only role

    b) Click on the vApp table and select Actions and from the drop down menu select Share

    c) From the wizard opened, click on Specific Principals  and select the user to assign access to the vApp

    d) Repeat same steps for every vApp the user need to access

 

2) If all the OrgVDCs from Organization are visible to the user with Console Access Only role

    a) From the Tenant Portal logged in as Organization Administrator select the OrgVDC

    b) Click on Sharing 

    c) From the wizard opened, click on Specific Principals  and select the user to assign access to the OrgVDC

    d) repeat the steps for any other OrgVDC that the user can access.

    e) If you do not wish to use the OrgVDC , you will need to simply select Specific Principals without selecting any users and the OrgVDC will not be displayed.
