Issue/Introduction

When installing a policy that refers to a user-defined exception created in Management Center one may face the error message:

User-defined exceptions must be prefixed with 'user_defined.':'Exception_Name'

The error message seems false self-explanatory and may be confusing. There is no sense in renaming the exception by adding any prefix.

Environment

Management Center

Exception created as a Shared Object

VPM policy that uses this exception

The exception is linked to the policy:

Cause

The proxy returns this message because the exception page with the configured name is missing on a proxy and should be installed prior to VPM policy.

Resolution

To manage exceptions from the Management Center as well as the policies one needs to create one more policy of "Exception List" type:

Once the policy is created add the needed exception(s) there:

Finally assign target(s) to this policy and install it.

After that you may proceed with VPM policy installation.
