Issue/Introduction

To show the latency, throughput and VM write IOPS charts for in-progress snapshot consolidations you need to enable instance metrics. Without these 3 being enabled these metrics won't be collected.

Environment

Operations for VMware Cloud Foundation 9.0

Resolution

Steps to Enable Host Latency & Throughput and VM Write IOPS

 

  1. Navigate to Infrastructure Operations à Configurations
  2. Click on the Policy Definition tile under Policies section

  1. Select Default Policy or Create a new policy inherited from Default Policy

 

 

For Host System & Virtual Machine ensure that the following metrics are Activated

Virtual Machine

Write IOPS

Activated

Note that both State and Instanced State should be Activated.

For example, to Activate the Instanced State for Host System à Datastore à Total Throughput

4. Navigate to Infrastructure Operations à Configurations à Policy Definitions tile

 

5. Click on Edit Policy

6. Click on Metrics and Properties and Search by Host System

7. Drill-down into Metrics

8. Look for Total Throughput (KBps)

9. Set State to Activated

10. For the Total Throughput (KBps), set the Instanced State to Activated. Click on the Deactivated link

11. Set the Instanced State to Activated by Enabling the Collect button
