Restoring the default vCenter Server alarms

Issue/Introduction

This article provides steps to restore the default vCenter Server alarms. You may want to restore the default alarms if one or more alarms are missing.

 

Note: This procedure does not recreate the custom alarms. You must recreate them manually.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server Appliance 7.0.x

Cause

This KB can be used if Alarm definition are deleted manually and we want to restore to default Alarms.

Resolution

1.To restore the default vCenter Server alarms, remove all existing alarm definitions set the value of "alarms.versionEx" to "-1" on the Advanced settings of the vCenter Server
2. Restart vpxd service

Note: Ensure to create the custom alarms manually.

Before proceeding further take a snapshot of the vCenter server.
