Issue/Introduction

Is there a way to delete reports, statistics, or things like version management objects for a single object?  Or do all objects in a client have to have the same deletion settings?

There are some use cases that require this, for example, if a hostgroup is continuously updated and needs to have version management records removed, is there a way to do this?

Resolution

When talking about archiving and reorganizing statistics and reports for existing objects, all tasks in a client will be treated the same.  Meaning that if you have a task that runs once per day and another that runs 10 times a day and you archive/reorg/unload all tasks older than 7 days, the first will always keep 7 and the second will always keep 70.

If you want to remove all reports and statistics for a task and do not want to keep the object, you can delete the object from the client completely and that will also delete its reports and statistics when the unload is next run for that client.

This also means that if you have a mechanism to reload or re-import an object into a system, you can do the following as well:

  • Take an export of the object (or unload via transport case)
  • Delete the object
  • Import the xml export (or load the transport case) into the same folder structure as it was originally
  • Run the unload utility against that client (this can also be done directly after the object is deleted)
