Issue/Introduction

We have recently upgraded one of our environments from Red Hat 7 to Red Hat 8 and have found that the Symantec 2FA module mod_authn_symc.so is reporting the following whenever we try and authenticate a 2FA request.

[authn_symc:error] [pid 821923] [client :26636] AH01622: Symantec authentication not initialized correctly,

We have tried downloading the latest Apache.zip file from https://manager.vip.symantec.com/vipmgr/downloadvipsfiles.v# but even this is very dated. The document is from June 29 2016 and the files inside the zip file have a timestamp of 2014 on them. Red Hat 8 on the other hand did not come out until 2019.

Are you able to confirm whether the above modules for 2FA integration are indeed the latest and whether they are expected to work with Apache on Red Hat 8?

Resolution

We are pleased to inform you that the Apache plugin package for RHEL 8.x and 9.x is now available in the Symantec VIP Manager download center.

This update addresses the issue where the Symantec 2FA module (mod_authn_symc.so) was previously reporting “Symantec authentication not initialized correctly” errors during 2FA authentication requests. The updated package should resolve these errors and improve your authentication experience.
