Harvest 14.5 client installation does not install PEC

Issue/Introduction

When install Harvest 14.5 client on Windows machine, PEC is not installed. For example, you won't see this folder at all

C:\Program Files (x86)\CA\SharedComponents\pec

No error is logged in any Harvest log files. As a result, the installed client can't connect to broker.

Resolution

If you have CrowdStrike anti-virus installed on the machine, there are two possible solutions:

  • You can uninstall XUMD component of CrowdStrike, then install the PEC, and after PEC installed, install the XUMD component back.
  • You can update the security policy in CrowdStrike to create exceptions for Harvest and PEC.  This will allow the installation to complete successfully as well.

If you don't have CrowdStrike, contact Broadcom Support.

Note: disable CrowdStrike alone does not allow PEC installation and you have to uninstall the XUMD component.
